“MobilSiegel": Fraunhofer IAF receives award for sustainable mobility for the second time

10/15/2024 / Employer award for climate-friendly mobility

Not only research at Fraunhofer IAF contributes daily to making mobility sustainable in the future, but employees also make their way to work at the institute in an environmentally conscious manner. Fraunhofer IAF has therefore now received the MobilSiegel for the second time since 2021 and has been recognized for special measures that motivate employees to travel to and from work in a climate-friendly manner. The seal is awarded by Freiburger Verkehrs AG on behalf of the city of Freiburg and in cooperation with the districts of Emmendingen and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald.

The “MobilSiegel” award recognizes companies that stand out for their outstanding initiatives to promote sustainable mobility. In addition to supporting the use of bicycles and public transport, this also includes carpooling for commuting to and from work. Recertification is possible after three years, which Fraunhofer IAF has succeeded in doing again after 2021, thus demonstrating continuity in terms of environmental awareness. Fraunhofer IAF employees have access to secure and dry bicycle parking spaces as well as showers and changing rooms in the institute building. In addition to compressed air and tools for repairs, charging stations for both e-bikes and e-cars are also available.

The “Industrieradler im Industriegebiet (IG) Nord” project is very popular at the institute and awards a small sum of money to employees who cycle to work in an environmentally friendly way. As part of this, they can take part in a prize draw and take part in campaigns such as Freiburg's “City Cycling”. “Industrieradler” is an initiative that is largely made up of works councils from companies in IG Nord and aims to make commuting to work in the industrial area more sustainable.
