Infrared technologies for space, climate and security
In over 40 contributions, the program of the two-day workshop covered a broad spectrum of topics: infrared technologies for space, climate and security as well as high-resolution thermal imaging cameras and real-time monitoring by spectroscopy were discussed. Guest speakers from renowned institutions in the USA, Great Britain, Austria, Switzerland, France and Germany introduced the individual topics.
Infrared detectors are an indispensable tool for Earth observation from space as well as for investigating processes in our solar system and beyond. However, in addition to traditional applications such as safety, security and space travel, infrared detectors and lasers are increasingly opening up new applications such as medical diagnostics, gas analysis and spectroscopy, as well as materials processing and climate research.
Various current developments in the field of photodetectors and semiconductor lasers were also presented by Fraunhofer IAF researchers. At the IR Colloquium 2019, numerous contributions from more than 100 international researchers, engineers and industry representatives were able to shed light on and discuss in detail the diverse fields of application of infrared technology.
